Thread veins knocking your confidence? If you find that you’re spending too much time checking your make-up or wearing dark tights on a daily basis to help conceal your thread veins, this Ellipse treatment could be perfect for you.
What are thread veins?
A thread vein is a small blood vessel near the surface of the skin. They are very common and completely harmless, but can sometimes cause embarrassment and reduce self-confidence.
How does Ellipse Laser Thread Vein Treatment work?
Ellipse uses a flash-lamp to emit short, safe bursts of light on to the skin as a way of removing thin veins (telangiectasias) from the face, body or legs. The flash-lamp is guided over the treatment area where blood vessels are visible, emitting light after every movement to ensure all veins are targeted.
The flash-lamp is carefully controlled by a fully qualified professional, and the system carefully filters this light in two ways to ensure that only light with the correct characteristics (wavelengths) reaches the skin.
The thread vein is destroyed by subjecting it to an Intensed Pulsed Light beam, which is emitted onto the skin and gets absorbed by the haemoglobin in the blood. The light is converted to heat, and when the temperature reaches around 60-70°C, the blood is forced to coagulate and the blood vessel eventually collapses and then dissolves.
Which thread veins can be treated?
Thread veins on all parts of the body can be treated, but the most common areas are usually the face, chest or legs.
Results are usually more effective when those with light skin are treated, as the treatment relies on the absorption of light by the haemoglobin in the blood. This is because the lighter the skin, the more prominent the blood vessel will be which makes the treatment easier. This isn’t to say that those with darker skin can’t see good results from the treatment though, as the Ellipse system has pre-programmed settings for different skin colours that can tailor the treatment and deliver the correct energy output for individual complexions.
How long does an Laser Thread Vein Treatment take?
The length of treatment time depends on the size of the area being treated. The glass prism which delivers the IPL is 10mm x 48mm so that a number of blood vessels in one area can be targeted in one flash of light. As a guide, a single session usually lasts around 10-20 minutes.
Does it hurt?
Pain from laser thread vein treatment is reported to be minimal, although tolerance varies from person to person. There’s no anaesthetics required during the treatment, and most people describe it as a similar sensation to that of a rubber band snapping against the skin, followed by a warm sensation for a few minutes.
