For minimum needle depths Dermapen™ Treatments are painless. Treatments over 0.5mm deep may require a topical Aesthetic cream to be applied for 15-40 minutes before the procedure. This will render the treatments virtually pain free.
Typically, you will see results after the first treatment. Lasting and more significant results will occur after 4 to 6 treatments. Your skin will continue to improve over the next 6-12 months after a course of treatments and when combined with the recommended post treatment care.
Generally no, but you may experience facial redness for 12-48 hours after the treatment. Most people are able to return to normal daily activities immediately after the treatment. Application of a breathable camouflage will seal the skin and cover any redness for an immediate return to work.
It is recommended to wait at least 7 days after filler injections, so that any post treatment bruising from the fillers can settle. It is also possible to have your Dermapen™ Treatment several days before having fillers injected. Consult with your practitioner prior to determine exactly how long to wait is best in each particular case.
Important Dermapen aftercare procedures
A best practice for having Dermapen treatments is usually during the winter, so that there’s less chance of being exposed to the sun. It’s important to stay completely out of the sun after a microneedling procedure to allow the skin to heal fully. Sun screens are also to be completely avoided, as they may contain toxins which can be extremely harmful to the skin channels which are open post-procedure.
For the same reason as avoiding sun screen, any skin care products that have active ingredients should be completely avoided. Post-procedure, the skin will be very sensitive and products which contain ingredients such as Alpha Hydroxyl Acids, Retinol and similar will irritate the skin even further.
Following the Dermapen treatment, your skin needs to be allowed time to heal. The skin channels will remain open some time after the treatment, and using make up and brushes on the skin can penetrate the pores resulting in irritating the skin. Even worse, contaminated brushes and products could contaminate your already sensitive skin and lead to infections.
It’s best to wait at least 24-48 hours before applying any make up products on the skin, to really give it the best chance of recovering and avoiding any complications.
Your medical practitioner will advise that you follow up your treatments using collagen stimulating peptides. This is because the treatment stimulates the production of collagen, so the skin needs higher amounts of collagen than usual to help recover.
Antioxidant serums have properties that assist in healing the skin. Serums assist in soothing the skin and further reduce irritation.
The skin will be irritated and inflamed following the treatment, and a cooling mask will help to calm the skin and reduce redness. This will ultimately make the skin feel more comfortable.
Following the Dermapen treatment, you should avoid any strenuous exercise or any activities that may cause you to sweat. While you sweat, your pores open. As the skin will still have punctures from the microneedling, any bacteria on your skin may enter the punctures and cause an infection.
Drinking plenty of water is a great way to help the skin heal quicker. After all, hydrated skin is happy skin.
